I sit in my car like I have  for decades

i pull down the visor to apply makeup before the hospice visit,

before most anything.

i pray.

i pray for each daughter in law–both so lovely it makes you want to cry.

they do makeup well..slowly, expertly, they take their time to apply it well.

they always look beautiful. And are– as women of faith, as my sons’ wives, as my daughters-in-love.

so..one eye is for Hayley.

and one is for Sara.

i pray for them individually as the black liner smooths on the lids

outlines my green eyes..

I remember them both and try and slow down, enjoy the luxury of artistic creation we women know as I separate the eyelashes with mascara

my prayer tool is my makeup.

my eyes are my daughters.
